How do network systems connect?

Network systems are usually composed of multiple parts, including terminal devices, network devices, and transmission media. Terminal devices such as computers, mobile phones, and tablets are the tools used directly by users; network devices include routers, switches, modems, and other devices responsible for data forwarding and management; transmission media are divided into wired (such as fiber optic cables, Ethernet cables) and wireless (such as Wi-Fi, 4G/5G) forms.

The first step in network connection is usually to connect the user's device to the internet service provider (ISP) provided network through a modem. The modem receives signals from the ISP and converts them into digital signals for local devices to use. Next, the router is responsible for distributing this network signal to multiple terminal devices, forming a local area network (LAN). Routers can connect to devices through wired or wireless methods to enable multiple devices to share the network.

In larger-scale networks, such as enterprise or campus networks, switches play a key role. Switches connect multiple terminal devices and accurately forward data packets to target devices through MAC address tables, improving network efficiency and security. In addition, networks in different geographical locations are interconnected through wide area network (WAN) technology, such as fiber optic communication, satellite connections, or virtual private networks (VPN).

Before transmission, data is divided into multiple small packets, each containing source address, destination address, and checksum information. Routers select the best path for forwarding based on the destination address, and the complete information is reassembled on the target device.

In summary, the connection of network systems is a complex and efficient process, which relies on the collaborative work of hardware devices, transmission media, and protocol standards. With the development of technology, the future network will be more intelligent and fast, bringing more convenience and possibilities to human society.
